Terry Bozzio w/ Alphonse Mouzon, The Art of Drumming, Tues. Sept. 1 @ 6pm PST on www.drumchannel.com

This week I have the original drummer from one of the most influential groups in history, Weather Report. Alphonse Mouzon is in the “Top 10″ of the most important drummers in my life. His work with Weather Report, as well as McCoy Tyner ( Enlightenment (Live at Montreux) & Song of the New World) were seminal in my development as well as being classic recordings in Jazz & Fusion Music. I am honored to be able to sit down with a personal hero. You won’t want to miss this!!

This week I found a really interesting percussionist for you! Fred Stites has played multi-percussion with Doc Severinsen’s Touring Band: “Today’s Children & the Now Generation Brass” w/ Ed Shaughnessy, has drummed for Henry Mancini, Johnny Mathis & Shirley Bassey. Has taught percussion at, recorded with & attended North Texas State (1′o clock Lab 67 & 68 Bands), got his Masters from Manhattan School of Music, and has played with the Dallas, Fort Worth, Kalamazoo & American Symphony Orchestras!
Fred got into the production side of the music business too, working sound & lights for 70′s funk giants The Ohio Players. He now heads the production for Grand Performances, a beautiful state of the art out door theater in California Plaza, downtown L.A.

Jim Chapin

We are all saddened by the passing of the great Jim Chapin… who has probably personally helped more drummers  than anyone in history. I know he was a meaningful friend and support to me, as well as an inspiration to all who met him. His books are in the “Top 10″ of essential drum books for me. He will be missed, but truly lead a long, full and authentic life that lives on in his books, words, music and especially in the hearts of those who were privileged enough to have known him.
It is not a coincidence that he, the father of coordinated independence in drumming, passed away on Independence Day. He “wrote the book on it” in the early 1930′s, decades before giants like Max Roach & Kenny Clark ushered it into use in the BeBop of the late ’40′s & early ’50′s.
While he was alive his sticks and pad were never at rest. They may lie silent now, but they rebound in us all over the world, in the techniques we use that he developed and lovingly shared with & nurtured in us.

The Art of Drumming Show, Tuesdays @ 6PM PST

drumchannel.com is going “live” twice a week!

I will be hosting my own show every tuesday starting June 30th. It will be a “One on One” show with more in depth focus on my guest, and most importantly a lot of time to jam & play together!!! In the style of DC Live w/ Curt Bisquera on Thursdays, we will stream live on Tuesdays to interact w/ any chat questions, & will put it up 2 days later for you to enjoy at anytime.

My first  show will focus on the importance of a good local teacher & my guest will be my friend & wonderful local educator Al Velasquez who has played with: Benise (currently), SugarLoaf, Big Bad Voo Doo Daddy ( on congas), Perla Battalla (latin singer @ TRAP) & Rafael Aragon (Flamenco). Al has studied w/Gregg Bissonette, Marc Craney, Steve Houghton, The Reyes;  Walfredo Sr, Jr. & Danny & David Garibaldi.

Welcome to the new terrybozzio.com

TerryBozzio2009Iruma041

Hello all my friends,

I’m sorry that my site has been so dead for so long!

It is now undergoing a re-design that enables me to be more directly in control of it…

The first thing I want to tell you is that I have been very busy working at DRUMCHANNEL.COM, a new website for drummers. Please log on & join (it’s free) & tell all of your friends to check it out.

The most recent playing I have done on DRUMCHANNEL was shot on Thursday… it’s called DC LIVE, hosted by my dear friend Curt Bisquera. It featured Tony Royster Jr., who was here promoting his new DVD “Evolution” which I am proud to say features me as well as the great Dennis Chambers. If you don’t know about Tony, I think he is probably the HOTTEST & most talented drummer on the planet right now. Not only can he lay it down w/ Jay Z, & shred everybody with his chops, but he is one of the most musically deep young men i have ever met.

Coming up this Thursday will be the mega star drummer of Rush: Neil Peart, joined by Jethro Tull’s Doane Perry & myself, for a Progressive Rock discussion and some jamming! It airs Live at 6 PM PST, & if you miss it we will rebroadcast it next week until the new episode airs on the following Thursday.

I will be hosting my own live show soon on Tuesdays… meanwhile I have tons of content on DRUMCHANNEL.COM… including Master Class Lessons, Interviews of my favorite drummers, Jams with my favorite drummers etc.etc. etc.

GO THERE NOW! (more about me & my stuff later!)
